Dear Parents and Carers
Today I would like to thank our parents and carers. Education has always been a partnership between home and school – never more so than now – and we all know that home schooling our kids can be very difficult. However, what we see at school is fantastically supportive parents making sure the students are working every day. All our data from the online resources shows consistently high take-up and completion rates throughout the year groups.
We’ve never been in this situation before, so were not quite sure what to expect, but we are delighted and grateful that our students are working so well at home. This will prove to be more and more important as lockdown is lifted and we get back into the classrooms.
I particularly like the pictures and accounts we get back from parents showing some of the work and activities the students are completing. We’ve been sharing some of these and would love to show more. Please send us ([email protected]) any pictures, work or accounts of activities at home, including home learning but also anything else – these serve to remind us all that we are one community and allow us to keep in touch with each other, albeit remotely.
However, it goes further than this. We frequently receive emails from parents sharing their expertise in key areas. There are many parents who work in mental health and we are grateful to receive guidance from them, drawn from their professional networks, which gives us ideas on how we may restart schooling again and what actions will support our students. These emails have covered bereavement, social distancing measures, emotional impact of lockdown and many other aspects of the world we find ourselves in. We receive emails from some of our parents who are keyworkers on the frontline, sharing with us medical advice that we may be able to use when we return. I can assure all our parents who find the time to share their expertise with us that we read and action their advice every time.
And throughout this whole epidemic, we have had a constant flow of supportive emails, praising the staff in the school and our overall response to the virus. These have been gratefully received and have made a difference to us throughout this period. We haven’t seen most of our students or parents since shutdown on Friday 20 March. However, I am not sure I have ever felt such a strong sense of community around Myton School as I have over the last month or so. A sincere thanks to all parents and carers, staff and students for making this happen.
With best wishes
