Dear Parents and Carers
On Monday afternoon, all Myton staff completed their annual safeguarding training. This year we chose the theme of County Lines gangs, the drug use that fuels them, and the associated risks including child sexual exploitation and knife crime. We selected this theme because County Lines gangs are unfortunately so active in Warwick and Leamington.
These gangs target potential drug markets, take over the dealing networks locally and then ship drugs from their base, in this case Birmingham or sometimes Coventry, to those local markets. They target children both as customers and runners. It is a problem that can affect all of us and it is important therefore for us to be aware, to notice signs, and to know how to act.
As a school, we have worked with local agencies to ensure children are aware of the risks and able to protect themselves. We will continue to do so throughout this year and every year.
For more information and emergency numbers regarding County Lines gangs, please see the National Crime Agency website.
If you are worried about your child (or any child), please contact the school immediately or go direct to Compass who are a drugs counselling group we work with. The Children’s Society have produced some guidance which you can download here: Criminal exploitation: A guide for parents.
We all want a safe and successful community so it is the duty of all of us who live or work here to join up our efforts to fight these criminal gangs and the culture they bring.
With best wishes
Andy Perry – Head Teacher
