Head of Science

TLR 1.3 £11,472 p.a.

From September 2019

We have an opportunity for a passionate and inspiring leader with a clear vision of what great science teaching looks like, and the drive to implement their vision across the largest department in the school.

A natural communicator, ideally with a proven record of raising and maintaining standards, you will be leading, or ready to lead, your own department and develop colleagues to make a difference to thousands of our students’ lives and subsequent careers.

You will lead a team of 19 subject specialists which include Heads of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, a KS4 lead (also 2nd in department) and a KS3 lead, and also 5 technicians. The department is extremely well resourced with 12 purpose-built laboratories and we have a £75,000 refurbishment programme taking place over the summer.

In 2018, 75% of our students achieved 2 or more GCSE science qualifications at grade 4 or above.  Nearly 25% achieved at least two grade 7’s.  At A Level, our sciences contribute to our “Outstanding” 6th form with consistently strong outcomes in all courses.  We are extremely proud that approximately half of our students opt for the Separate Sciences at GCSE and over 40% of students take a science at A-Level, with over a quarter of those studying more than one.  In September 2019, we expect to have eight Year 12 classes in the department.

As well as being academic, we are also highly inclusive and want all students to develop a love for science and to think like a scientist.  As a happy and purposeful community, we offer students an exciting curriculum and a huge range of extra-curricular opportunities within a safe, secure and supportive environment.  With enduring values of care and mutual respect we support hard-working staff as well as students and families.

We invest in our staff and offer frequent opportunities to gain wider experience according to areas of interest and expertise.  We have an extremely active staff wellbeing group who organise events and Teaching and Learning team who provide incentives for sharing best practice.  As a school we recognise that staff are our biggest asset.

Myton is a very popular, high performing school with academy status, situated between Warwick and Leamington Spa, close to the M40.

We can offer you:

  • Highly competitive salary
  • A robust TLR structure to enable you to implement your vision
  • Opportunities to consult with other middle leaders and share best practice
  • No formal graded lesson observations – just on-going feedback to help you continuously develop as a teacher
  • Excellent training/CPD
  • Development towards Senior Leadership
  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Free access to the Employee Assistance Programme with Education Support Partnership.

If you possess these qualities and share the school’s vision, then we would be delighted to hear from you.  We actively welcome visits and would be proud to show you around our school. Please contact Chris Cannon, Assistant Head, at cannon.c@myton.co.uk for informal enquiries or to arrange a visit.
