Swanshurst School
A Specialist Science College &
Training School
Swanshurst School became a Training School in the Year 2000. Our initial specialism was ICT and that has remained through to the present day. The majority of our outreach work is working with trainees and teachers to develop their use of ICT within teaching and learning. We also support schools in both the planning and development of VLE’s and in the way they work with Trainees.
At present the Training School focuses on four major areas; Whole school Teaching and Learning development, Continuing Professional Development from NQT through to post threshold, Initial Teacher Training and outreach work with a variety of partners such as schools, HEI providers and the local authority and other Training Schools.
The Training School structure comprises of a management group including a Deputy Headteacher, the Head Mentor and the Training School Manager. We have four Lead Training School Associates on TLR responsibilities and fourteen Training School Associates who were awarded bursaries to work on various developmental research based projects within and outside the school through coaching partnerships.
These projects include mentor training, literacy and numeracy development, training for new form tutors and ITT trainees with forms, raising achievement in KS4, NQT teaching and Learning Development, Student Voice Development, Cross Curricular ICT Development and Middle Leader Development
