Initial Teacher Training at
St. Peter's Church of England High School and International Language College
Since becoming a Training School in 2005 St. Peter’s has developed its work with trainee teachers significantly.
The school links with Manchester Metropolitan University for PE placements, and Keele University for other placements, notably Science, ICT, MFL Maths and History. The training school manager sits on the Keele ITE steering committee, and staff run sessions for Keele trainees in MFL issues. Keele staff have run a whole school INSET day on mentoring skills.
St. Peter’s is also closely linked with the Graduate Teaching Programme, which is run by the Local Authority. There are two GTPs in the school, and the Training School Manager is also the Secondary Co-ordinator for the authority and runs support sessions, training events, and is also a trained final assessor, as well as sitting on the management and steering committees.
As part of the outreach programme St. Peter's also runs twilight courses for colleagues in the authority and in nearby schools on topics such as : SEN good practice, Managing Challenging Behaviour, Data for the Bewildered - all coming up in the summer term.
