PSYCHOLOGY AQA(A)
What is Psychology?
Psychology is the scientific study of people, the mind and behaviour. It is both a thriving academic discipline and a vital professional practice. Psychologists and psychological research have a huge impact on all aspects of public life, particularly in areas such as education, health, the economy, industry and social justice.
How will Psychology be taught at Myton?
At AS Level students will develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the core areas of Psychology. At A2 students will study a range of topics which bring together explanations from different psychological approaches and engage students in issues and debates in Psychology. Central to the course, and running throughout it, will be the need for students to develop a disciplined and rigorous approach to research methods.
Students are taught using a range of styles including, peer tutoring, group presentations, discussion and debates. Students receive regular assessments to monitor their understanding. There are very clear links between Psychology and many other subjects, such as Sociology, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Politics, but it is a strong subject in its own right and need not be taken in combination.
What are the entry requirements?
No prior knowledge of Psychology is expected. However, although not essential, it is suggested that students should be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills equivalent to those required to gain at least Grade C in GCSE Maths and English.
