DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES AQA

Drama in the Sixth Form aims to ensure that all participants grow into highly desirable members of any theatrical group. Many former students have moved on to related courses in Colleges, Universities and Drama Schools.

Students work on plays from different theatrical periods and learn about the social, historical and political background of each text. The work is essentially practical in nature with lots of opportunities for experience as actors, directors and designers preparatory to written work in the style required for the exams. There are also chances to undertake research, use initiative and be genuinely creative.

Students are able to use the ideas gained within scripted work and their own devised plays which form the basis of assessment in, respectively, AS and A2. It is important that students are keen to go to the theatre as well as getting involved with productions here in School.

The subject will suit those with a keen interest in all things theatrical and with a desire to be involved in performance work. You need to be a good team player and be prepared to stay after school for rehearsals when required. There is a strong academic content but plenty of opportunity to express yourself and develop transferable life skills as well as theatrical know-how.
