You will normally need at least a B grade at GCSE to follow this course. At the end of the AS course you should be able to communicate both verbally and on paper with greater fluency and you will be able to understand both spoken and written French with greater confidence. These skills will be even more enhanced by the end of the A2 course. |

The course has the following features: |
- You will still do the four skills of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing as for GCSE except that more than one skill is assessed in each paper
|
- You use your own Walkman so that you can listen to the tape as much as you like.
|
- You will study a book/play as part of the literature as well as another cultural topic of your choice
|
- You will thoroughly revise your GCSE grammar and do more sophisticated grammar such as the subjunctive and passive
|

The AS units will be easier and build on your GCSE topic knowledge. The A2 units are more demanding. The broad topic outlines are:
AS topics include: Media, Popular Culture, Healthy Living/Lifestyle, Family and Relationships.
A2 topics include: Environment, the Multicultural Society, Contemporary Social Issues and a choice of cultural topics (eg a period of French history, a work of French Literature, a French-speaking region or community).
